How I got paid to eat weird shit online

Hey hey hey!

You know what’s funny? I used to stream on Twitch, yup it’s that one platform that people come to watch others play video games and…sleep (apparently)

It was so fun for me because people literally threw money at me to eat weird stuff on stream.

It started with a random viewer asking if I have ever eaten yogurt and mayo mix together. I said no, but if anyone gives me 20 bucks, I’ll do it.

Then suddenly a different viewer donates $20 live on stream (Twitch lets you link your PayPal where people can send you money, and a notification will pop up on your livestream letting everyone knows you just got paid)

Everyone in the chat is now ecstatic from the fact that I am now have to eat that weird mixture of food 😆

This is me $20 richer:

I got paid $20 to eat yogurt and mayo mix

After that whole mayo yogurt thing, I got even more requests with weirder combination like Red Bull and Mustard mix 🤮

But before this was even a thing. Before having people watching my stream, it was a lonely 3 months grind. Three months livestreaming into the void, having 1 or 2 viewers, and most of them were bots. I didn’t even know what I was doing, I even suck at playing games.

Looking back, those three months suck, but they were so crucial. During that period I was testing things out, learning a bunch about video and audio setup, learning about the platform Twitch itself, and finding which types of content I enjoy making.

For some reason, I didn’t quit. I kept streaming at least 2 hours a day, every day, for 3 months straight. I showed up daily and not a single thought about quitting.

And then on a beautiful day, one person joined my stream, then another person joined, and that person invited their friends to join, and their friends invited even more friends, leading up to me eating weird shit for people to watch on the internet.

It takes time

I often remind myself about my journey on Twitch whenever I have an obstacle blocking me from achieving my current goal.

I want to share this with you today, and I hope you find it helpful.

No matter what you’re working on, there will be times when you don’t see any progress or signs of growth. That’s completely normal. Growth is often something you can’t see or measure easily. Just keep going, try different approaches, and most importantly, be patient.

Sh*t takes time, ya know?

Chinese bamboo tree

How about we travel East and explore a type of plant called Chinese bamboo tree. Unlike most trees, it doesn’t grow steadily over a period of years, this Chinese bamboo tree doesn’t break through the ground for the first four years

Imagine watering a plant every day for 4 years and see nothing in your planter. I would just stop watering and give up on growing a tree 😂

Then, when the fifth year comes, something happens. The tree begins to grow rapidly. In the next five weeks, it grows into a height of 90ft (27.4m)

Look how tall they are

It seems to me that life often follows a similar pattern.

You put in weeks, months, or even years of effort into your dream without seeing any noticeable progress, but suddenly, everything starts to change. Your business becomes wildly profitable, exceeding your expectations, you start getting referrals for your business, people start showing up at your door with their wallet wide open.

That doesn’t happen overnight, It happens because you take the time to put in the work, to show up every day and water that bamboo tree.

So next time you feel down or unmotivated from seeing no signs of growth, just remember the Chinese bamboo tree, or my story on Twitch. Remember, both stories require daily effort and most importantly…

TIME.

I’m out ✌️

P.S: Putting in work daily requires a system. And what would be better than to have something that create a system for you.

My friend and I are testing an idea for a browser extension. It's designed to help you manage your time and all the tasks on your to-do list.

If you’re similar to me, you often have many tabs left open, waiting to be revisited.

But here’s the problem, you never revisit them.

Things often don’t get done unless you block time to do them.

With this browser extension, you’re 1 click away to get yourself accountable and clear out those tabs.

If you experience the same problem and find this extension useful for you,
