Making your first $1 online

Reading time: 3 minutes

Last week, I addressed the issue of modern slavery and the importance of not getting stuck in your job forever (You can read about it here)

Most people will never make their first $1 online because they are too focused on how to make $1M online. (I’m guilty of this)

Our best bet to get out of the 9-5 grind is to start making that first dollar. So follow me along because we’re about to come up with a plan of attack.

4 Big challenges

  • You don’t know what problems to solve

  • You have zero social media audience

  • You have no one to sell to

  • You lack social proof

If any of these sounds like you, keep reading.

Step 1: Connect and understand people's common problems.

Hold off on buying that domain name or diving into product creation just yet. Validate your idea first.

Keep this in mind: everyone has problems, but they will pay to fix the ones that hurt the most.

Problems in these 3 categories tend to hurt the most:

  • Health (getting in shape)

  • Wealth (making money)

  • Relationships (falling in love)

Now take a look at the skills you've developed over the course of your life and career.

  • What can you do to help people achieve their goals?

  • Who are the people that a few years behind you on their journey?

Identify them and talk to them.

I’ve been hopping on calls with (random) folks on Twitter, to make this step more enjoyable. You won’t believe how much value you can get from talking to others, plus connecting and getting to know a stranger is fun.

Step 2: Grow a small audience around fixing that problem

Once you identify people's most pressing problems and have solutions for them, it's time to tell the world that you’re the problem solver.

(Hold on, don’t go out there and start selling your products/services yet)

“take it easy”

Start creating content online, EVERY DAY, show ‘em your expertise, show ‘em you know what you’re talking about.

Remember, you have to solve one specific problem. Don’t be one of those restaurants that have so many menu options to choose from. Pick what you’re good at, and then go ham.

Step 3: Build an email list

After creating content that addresses a particular problem, you'll draw in a small audience. However, audiences can be unpredictable, influenced by various social media algorithms.

That's why you need to start am email list of engaged individuals. One way to kick-start this is to offer something valuable in return for their email address. (making a lead magnet, yes!)

Before investing time in creating a lead magnet, check out this video by Mr. Alex Hormozi

Step 4: Give your solution away for free

After putting in all that effort, you've gathered a bunch of folks who know you can tackle their challenges. Now, let's gather some social proof.

Reach out to a handful of potential clients and offer your service for free. Let them know you're aiming for feedback and a testimonial if your solution works for them.

This step is important for refining your system and solution, and for showing others that your work is good, which will make it easier to get paying clients.

Speaking of giving away free stuff!

I'm offering free consulting calls to 10 creators who need clarity on growing and monetizing their brands. Whether you're starting out or already on your way, there's no cost involved. In return, I'd appreciate your feedback and a testimonial if you find value.

TL;DR:

  1. Reach out and get an understanding of people's common problems.

  2. Grow a small audience around fixing that problem

  3. Build an email list

  4. Give your solution away for free

This is one way to make your first $1 online. Feel free to use what you've learned in this guide for your situation. By step 4, you'll be ready to offer your service to paying clients.

That’s it for this week
